Indians and animal

Animals play a major role in daily life (especially if you are an Indian). Starting from lizard to tortoise, these animals have big tales behind them.

           Black Cat @ Karupu Punnai

Remember the day, when you were in the car with your parents and out of nowhere a black cat crosses the road?  And your parents decided to take a U-turn and took a longer route to the destination.  Why the Indians are so concern about the Black Cat? Yes a black cat...If it was a brown, yellow, red, indigo, cyan color cat, it is alright, but not a black cat!

Is it the fault of the cat to be born black...or fault of the cat to cross the road...or it’s the Indians??

If you ask your pathi, they will go like this...

Karupusamy: pathi, why can’t we use the route that is crossed by a cat?

Pathi: black cat brings bad luck...

Karupusamy: why cat? Not dog...or chicken...or rabbit?

Pathi: don’t be rude to the elders. Young generations nowadays don’t respect the culture...

Karupusamy: O...

Ithu thevaiya?

Some ‘scientific’ reason.

You see, some believe that cat have 7 life. The cat will reincarnate 7 times before they are completely dead. Black cat is believed to be the last reincarnation of the cats, so any contact with black cats is believed to bring bad luck...

Lizard@ palli @ cicak man

Remember Rajni’s punch dialogue from Arunachalam?

Rajni: kanna, andavan solran, Arunachalam mudikiran...

Palli: cik cik cik...

Rajni: sollithan...

Thalaiva neengelumma?

It is believed that lizards actually gives approval or repeats what you said previously. If you were to tell the previous line to kids, watch out...be prepared to answer this:

Palli ku epidi tamil teriyum?

How come lizard understands Tamil?

Scientific kandupidipu’

Lizard actually clicks to attract mate... Somehow the elders found a good thing in the ‘cik cik cik’..

Parrot @ Killi

Okay, time for a little truth. How many of you all never went for a killi josiyam before? I believe I can count those who never went for this josiyam with fingers. A brief introduction for those who never encounter a killi josiyam before.

Killi Josiyam

This is a practice where the parrot will pick a card from an arranged deck of cards. And these cards will have God’s pictures or some symbols on it. According to the picture, the Josiyar will search his Book of Eternity for the meaning of the picture and tells YOUR future to YOU. He will insist on what to do and what not to do. Some famous stuff:

What not to do:

3. Don’t ride a bike...kilinjichi la...

2. Don’t get influenced by friends... kandupudichitan da!

1. Don’t go to the sea!

What to do:

Amman ku orru kanni vethi pothu, Darchanam panirenggo

Tortoise@ Amai

I remember during my school days, my brother brought a tortoise which he caught from a drain. The moment my mum saw the tortoise she went

MUM: OMG, you brought a tortoise home?!!

Bro: what’s wrong with tortoise...?

MUM: tortoise brings bad luck to family...no no no...throw that turtle away...I don’t want to see the turtle here in house...go!

…..

It was a 3 inch tortoise...what can it posibly does? It’s understandable if he brought a scorpion, or even a crab...

Tortoise and science

Yet to be explained...

Think I’ll stop with these animals for now.

Some says having a pet is good; it protects you and your family. The pets are believed to protect its owner by taking the sickness or any disaster that they may face...again, just a theory.
